Pseudo Cholinesterase

Pseudo cholinesterase, i.e. butyryl cholinesterase is an enzyme acting as a catalyst for choline esters such as butyryl choline and acetocholine as well as some non-cholinic esters (such as phenyl benzoesate). Obtained from horse serum using the ammonium sulphate fractionation method. Used as a reagent in diagnostic laboratories, in pesticide poisoning as well as biochemical and analytical research. Preparation activity is expressed in absolute units (a.u.) – single unit corresponds to enzyme volume hydrolyzing 5.7 butyryl choline iodide within 5 minutes.
